Riga Willow Basket
Mar 24, 2023
Riga, the capital of Latvia, faces the Baltic Sea and was once referred to as "Northern Paris" by British writer Graham Green.
Half of the land here is covered in forests, and baskets woven with willows have become traditional local handicrafts. Due to their membership in the Nordic cultural circle, they also exhibit a minimalist style in design.
The Riga basket comes in different sizes and shapes, but the most iconic one is the design located on both sides, known as the 'Eye of God', which gives it a unique ethnic atmosphere.
The Riga basket used to be mainly used for picking mushrooms and berries, but it is still rooted in people's daily lives to this day.
The Riga basket effectively utilizes the flexible and durable characteristics of willows, and can be selected in different sizes according to the purpose of use. In addition to being used during picnics, it can also be used for daily storage.
However, this type of basket is currently relatively rare in China and can only be purchased through overseas shopping.
